The stakes are high as we close in on the end of another beautiful season of football. I will miss you football once you are gone, but it will be nice to not have Betto calling me up every five minutes telling me how good he is a predicting the results! Well, money where your mouth is time Betto, let’s see what you have got today…
Aston Villa v Wigan
3pm Kick Off
Live from Villa Park
Big game today at Villa Park, Wigan will be desperate to win this game as they remain third from bottom despite some better performances of late. Villa are probably a win away from guaranteed safety, they are coming of the back of a loss following the local derby at West Brom, but their form isn’t that bad over the last 6 games only losing twice. Wigan have had some tough games, drawing at home in the last game to Everton and only losing twice in the last 6 games. Tough match let’s see what Betto thinks:
Aston Villa Team News: Makoun is out, but great news…Heskey is back!
Wigan Team News: Diame bar and N’Zogbia are doubts.
Betto: I thought Wigan win, Wigan win, but with N’Zog potentially out I think this one will be a draw.
Bolton v Sunderland
3pm Kick Off
Live from the Reebok
Huge match up at the Reebok today, two sides who earlier in the season you expected to be battling it out in the top half of the table, but how times have changed for Sunderland. The black cats come into this game showing signs of relegation form, only 1 win in the last 6 and every other game has been a defeat. Bolton’s form has also dropped off, losing 4 out of the last 6, with their dip in form coinciding with the loss of influential Stu Holden in midfield. Let’s check the teams and what we are all here for…Betto!
Bolton Team News: Mark Davies, Sturridge (aka goal machine) and Steinsson all doubts.
Sunderland Team News: Ferdinand and Henderson doubts…basically everyone else injured!
Betto: Sunderland are one game from safety, but with so many out and playing a good side, I can’t see the win coming here despite Bolton’s poor form. I am all Natalie Imbruglia on this one, torn between Bolton win and a draw. If Sturridge plays Bolton win, if not draw.
Everton v Man City
3pm Kick Off
Live from Goodison Park
Two teams in great form meet today at Goodison and this one could be a great game. Despite Tevez being out, Man City have managed to continue their great run as they edge towards qualifying for the Champions League. But Everton have had a great second half of the season, their form over the last 6 games has resulted in them taking 11 points from a possible 18. Man City are coming in to this game on the back of three wins, but they can always get turned over.
Everton Team News: Things looking up for Everton with only Saha and Fellaini injured.
Man City Team News: De Jong, Richards and Tevez all doubts. Boateng, M Johnson, Given and Kolo Toure are unavailable.
Betto: I don’t know what is up with me today, maybe it’s the hangover, maybe I am losing it…but I can’t decide on an Everton win or a draw. Let’s stick my head on the block again, Everton win.
Newcastle v Birmingham
3pm Kick Off
Live from St.James’ Park
Surely these two teams will be looking to finish the season on a high as the finish line is in sight after a long hard season. Newcastle will be happy that they are going to survive this year and have had a good campaign. Birmingham on the other hand will be disappointed with their league form, especially following their encouraging start to the season. Newcastle have only managed one win in the last six and have had problems scoring with only 35 goals in the league this year. Birmingham continue to be tough to beat at home, but their away form is all over the place, despite this they have only lost 2 in the last 6.
Newcastle Team News: Ben Arfa, Best, Ireland, Smith, Gosling, Perch, Guthrie and Williamson all injured.
Birmingham Team News: Dann, Martins, McFadden, Taylor, Valles, Zigic and Taylor. Gardner suspended.
West Ham v Blackburn
3pm Kick Off
Live from Upton Park
A huge game for two teams down at the bottom of the table, a real six pointer if ever there was one. West Ham remain rooted to the bottom of the table and with such optimistic owners it is surely all still to play for in East London. Blackburn are still not safe and if results don’t go their way this weekend they could slip in to the bottom 3. West Ham’s form is awful at the moment, they have not won in the last 6 taking only 1 point. Blackburn’s form isn’t too bad, just too many draws, but they have only lost two in the last 6. Let’s check the teams and Betto:
West Ham Team News: Parker, Upson and Tomkins are all doubts. Dyer (surprise), Noble, O’Neil and Stanislas are all out.
Blackburn Team News: Dunn, Hoilett and Salgado are doubts. Grella and Nelsen will be missing.
Betto: If Blackburn win they will edge towards safety, if West Ham win they have a chance of staying up. Fancy a Blackburn win if Parker is out, if he plays, draw.
Tottenham v Blackpool
5.30pm Kick Off
Live from WHL on ESPN
Finally Blackpool play an away game after four home games on the bounce. The games at home didn’t really help though as Blackpool remain only one place above the drop zone on goal difference. Spurs haven’t been doing too well of late, their form has seen them drop to 6th in the league after Liverpool ate up a once 8 point gap and any faint hopes of Champions League football have now slipped away. Blackpool have not won in 6 and Spurs have only won 3 games since April.
Tottenham Team News: Corluka is a doubt. Assou-Ekotto, Huddlestone, Hutton, Palacios, Khumalo, King and Woodgate are all out.
Blackpool Team News: Basham and Carney are out.
Betto: Blackpool will be going for this at White Hart Lane, Spurs have been disappointing lately. Spurs win…maybe by a few.
