With the January transfer window and Jim White-related shenanigans finally behind us for another couple of months, it’s time to focus on the second round of Premier League games in four days.
If you have been caught out by Tuesday’s Fantasy Football deadline, fear not. Here’s four players that could turn your team’s fortunes around this weekend.
Jose Mourinho would probably considering him the driver of the 19th-century bus West Ham parked at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, but the Hammers stopper was simply outstanding as Big Sam’s men earned an unexpected point.
West Ham host Swansea on Saturday and with the Swans having scored twice in their last five games on the road, investing £4.3m on Adrian could be some shrewd business – unless Michael Laudrup spends the next 48 hours studying history, that is.
2) Jose Fonte
Southampton’s centre-back has been absolutely outstanding this season, scoring 86 points so far which have more than justified his £5.1m price-tag.
Fonte is the league’s second best defender in terms of value for money and with the Saints traveling to Fulham this weekend another clean sheet could be on the cards, given that Fulham have the league’s second-worst home record.
The Cottagers have scored just 14 times at home this season, making Fonte a very appealing option ahead of tomorrow.
3) Adam Johnson
From Manchester City reject to Sunderland’s saviour, Johnson is enjoying the best season of his career, and those who have selected him in their fantasy teams are reaping the benefits of shelling out £7.6m
The Sunderland man has scored 43 of his 87 fantasy points over the last three weeks, his five goals and two assists proving crucial to drag his side away from the bottom three for the first time this season.
All that’s left for Johnson to endear himself even more to the Stadium of Light faithfuls is to score against Newcastle and lead Sunderland to League Cup glory later on this season.
4) Edin Dzeko
The Bosnian made the most of a rare start on Wednesday night, scoring once and assisting two of City’s almost obligatory five goals, accruing 15 fantasy points in the process.
With Sergio Aguero sidelined with a hamstring injury, Dzeko is expected to partner Alvaro Negredo against Chelsea on Monday and at £6.7m the Bosnian, who’s scored four in his last five league games, is incredible value for money.
