Seriously cool Afro Supreme.
The Player:
Officially Stoke City’s all-time cult hero, as voted for by Football Focus viewers. He spent eight years there from 1982-1990 after leaving his first club, Wolves.
He was actually born in West Germany via a Welsh mother and Jamaican father. Wisely though, he elected to play for Wales and wrote his name in history as the first black player to represent the country. A status befitting such a Shaft-like presence.
The size of his afro didn’t squash his brains either – after retiring, he gained a business degree and went on to become the Senior Commercial Executive at the PFA.
Here is an interview with him from 2008, where he details some of the racism he had to put up with as a black player in the 70′s and his views on the modern English game.
Thats one hell of a fro!
My hair is better than that
This has to be the coolest barnet so far.
