Transfer Window Countdown: Could this lot be destined for the Premier League this week?

The term ‘transfer window slamming shut’ is heavily overused at this time of year (mainly by Jim White and SSN) as we find ourselves deep in the countdown to this summers transfer window closing. Football Manager addicts have readied the baby oil at the thought of so many real life transfers happening, whilst fans of smaller clubs live in trepidation of a big star player leaving last minute and their team being diminished. Fans of bigger teams with spending power will be anticipating the big signing and SkySports have their motley crew positioned around grounds looking for the latest car ‘winterview’. Whatever your disposition, this is a week in the football calendar that brings out the best and the worst in football as all the wheeling and dealing comes to its climax and we all secretly hope that SkySports ‘totaliser’ will self combust.

In honour of such a week, one of our Rascal’s has produced a guide to some players that could be making the headlines in the papers this week, so without further-ado lets take a look in to the future:

Jack Butland: Surely a Premier League move is not far away?

Jack Butland

Birmingham City

Goalkeeper

Approximate Value: £8m

A young talented player who has all of a sudden burst onto the scene over the last few months making appearances for the British Olympic side and England national team. His performances during the Olympics didn’t go unnoticed and this has caused widespread interest from many clubs and even a cheeky test the water bid from Southampton. The ‘next Joe Hart’ won’t come cheap though and his price-tag may put a few off.

Potential Suitors: Southampton have already been mentioned, Everton might also need to start looking for a keeper having very little backup for Howard, whilst Tottenham have been mentioned. If Spurs don’t get Lloris, they could go for Butland who will become Friedel’s apprentice, but don’t be surprised to see Southampton make a move.

Debuchy: Already too cool for the Premier League

Mathieu Debuchy

Lille

Right-back

Approximate Value: £7m

The talented French international has attracted much attention since his performances at the Euro’s and one of those who have shown much interest is Newcastle who have tabled a few offers, all of which have been rejected so far. Debuchy would be a good value for money signing – at only 27 has played over 200 times for Lille – he is also willing to move having expressed his desire to ply his trade in England, leaving the door wide open to anyone that will cough up £7m.

Potential Suitors: Obviously Newcastle, but if you look around at who needs a right-back, Swansea maybe in need if Rangel departs, whilst Villa, Stoke and QPR could all do with a good addition to that area.

Dann: Belongs in the Premier League purely for his massive arms and peanut sized head.

Scott Dann

Blackburn

Centre-back

Approximate Value: £7m

Tall, strong and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, it seems like Scott Dann has the lot which makes it more of a surprise why no one made an offer when Blackburn got relegated. He has premier league experience and was a part of Birmingham’s long home unbeaten run and highest Premier League finish ever.

Potential suitors: Southampton arguably need a centre back, whilst Aston Villa and QPR need to add some experience and quality.

Olsson: A double earring means only one thing - Premier League bound.

Martin Olsson

Blackburn

Left-back/Left-wing

Approximate Value: £5m

At just 24 years of age Martin Olsson has great experience; he has played 109 games for Blackburn Rovers since 2007, whilst having 12 caps for Sweden. He was named Blackburn’s player of the year in the 07-08 season and is a decent Premier League player. His pace and power make him a great attacking left back, which every Premier League club seems to want nowadays, whilst his versatility is an ever valued trait.

Potential suitors: Aston Villa are looking for a replacement for Stephen Warnock who has been frozen out, whilst it could be speculated West Brom and Sunderland are also in need for left back.

Ince: Laughing all the way to the Prem? Or is it because he is better than his Dad?

Tom Ince

Blackpool

Creative Midfielder

Approximate Value: £5m

Go back to this time last season and you probably won’t have known too much about Tom Ince, maybe you would have known he is Paul Ince’s son. But that has all changed after the youngster was instrumental in getting Blackpool to the play-off final last season, making 35 appearances scoring 8 goals. This season has started well for the youngster, he has played 5 games in all competitions and hit 5 goals. Surely the Premier League is beckoning for this young star, the question is when?

Potential suitors: Swansea have been reported to be interested in the England youth international, but don’t be surprised by other any Premier League interest.

Everyone loves awards...except Wilfried Zaha.

Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace

Forward/Winger

Approximate Value: £6-7m

When Wilfried Zaha was named Football League Young Player of the Year last season it was no surprise. Labelled by many opposition players as ‘the next Victor Moses’, the skilful winger left championship full back’s shaking in their boots last season and doesn’t look like letting up on them this season. His progression has lead to speculation about his future intensifying and a move may not be far away.

Potential suitors: Don’t be surprised to see Wigan replace Victor Moses with the latest graduate from the Palace academy and Swansea are in the market for a winger with Scott Sinclair set to depart.

Isco: Could he be the next Fabregas?

Isco

Malaga

Attacking Midfielder

Price: £10-12m

Aged just 20, the Malaga attacking midfielder is regarded as one of the hottest young properties in Spain, and that’s saying something. Links to Premier League clubs have been constant this summer and with Malaga’s current financial situation, the price could be right for someone to recruit the next big thing.

Potential suitors: Following Modric’s departure, Tottenham could look to step up their interest in the young midfielder to bring some Spanish flair to the Tottenham midfield. However Manchester United and Manchester City are said to be monitoring developments.

Antoine Griezmann: He already has Premier League hair, all he needs now is a club!

Antoine Griezmann

Real Sociedad

Winger

Approximate Value: £6m

Not a household name – yet – but the 21-year-old French Real Sociedad attacker has played 111 games for Real Sociedad scoring 20 goals. With lightening pace and skill this young prospect would be a great buy for any club and with some many Premier League clubs looking for wingers, he could be a surprise purchase.

Potential Suitors: There has reported interest from Chelsea and Tottenham this summer according to Spanish newspapers, whilst Liverpool have been mentioned as having an interest.
