The harshest red card of the year?

“Dumb-founded and speechless” was how Dorchester player-manager Ashley Vickers described his sending off in Mondays league game against Havant & Waterlooville.

With the game hanging in the balance at 1-1 with 20 minutes to go, Havant & Waterlooville fan Alan Young seized the opportunity to execute a daring pitch invasion that had been planned in the pub the previous day.

Clad in a Borat-style mankini, he easily evaded the comically slow security team before Vickers decided to end the farce with a stern tackle that wouldn’t have looked out of place on a rugby pitch.

After being thanked by security however, he was promptly sent off.

Vickers said, “The funny thing was the stewards actually thanked me for it, but the ref decided to send me off and it beggars belief. Their players told the ref not to send me off and their chairman even offered to take a player off to even things up. The ref lost the game after that.’

The flustered and weakened Dorchester side went on to lose two more players and two more goals before the final whistle, losing 3-1.
